I am a Zimbabwean artist living and working in the U.S. Through the years, I have exhibited my work in art galleries, as well as in private showings, but focusing more on developing a raport with collectors of my art. Although classically and formally trained beginning at an early age as well as at the American Continental University in Atlanta, GA, I have developed my own style, which is a visual manifestation of my 'waking dreams'. Often influenced by a combination of culture, life experiences, mythology, dreams, spirituality and internal observations, my paintings are usually fully formed in my mind before they 'appear' on canvas. The process is one that I relish, an exhuberant validation of the part of myself that could never be expressed in words alone. When I am painting I feel flawless, immersing myself in color, texture, form and contrast, and ultimately hoping to express that universal voice that transcends gender, socio-economic and ethnic differences. In addition to my paintings, which can be found in many international collections, I have had the opportunity to create retail design products, which are now available in many stores in North America. Art Classes
I teach art lessons to students of all ages and experience levels, from the absolute beginner to the accomplished artist who may be in need of inspiration or creative guidance. I will conduct lessons in drawing, acrylic, oil or pastel painting at either my home studio or any suitable location of your choosing. You will learn everything from selecting art supplies to mixing colors, creating depth and texture, correcting mistakes and critiquing your own work. You will find me to be patient, encouraging and eager to make each lesson one that you will remember and learn many valuable techniques that will help you to grow as an artist. If you are indeed a beginner, the fact that you have taken the first step to look into taking a class is proof enough that you are ready to explore your creativity and become the artist that you long to be. Even in a group setting, I will work with each student on an individual basis, giving him or her the attention that they need in order to accomplish their creative goals. I had wanted to be an artist ever since young adulthood. Before I met Mucha, I had read several books on art and watched various videos. Some of the videos were about the many great artists of the past. I also started experimenting by sketching different shapes and forms. When I met Mucha, I showed her what I had been working on. When she viewed my ‘artwork’, she was amazed at the number of boxes and circles I drew. I had many of them! She had one question for me: ‘Why do you draw so many boxes and circles? Is your goal as an artist to only draw these shapes?’ I said to her that I wanted to draw fantasy scenes and different characters such as wizards and witches, shamans, magicians and jazz musicians and such. And I also had a desire to study hard to eventually do some portrait art out in the park. She said to me, ‘So why aren’t you drawing all of these things? Do you think you have to master boxes and circles before you move forward?’ Needless to say, this was my thinking. She changed my viewpoint and told me to allow my creative expression to come out. She worked with me on charcoal, pastels, acrylics, form, shape, background and mixing colors. I have been drawing and painting ever since! I have been an artist for as long as I can remember, but I was frustrated because I had lost my inspiration and had not completed a painting in several years. When I first started painting with Mucha, it was not so much that I needed instruction but rather creative guidance and coaching, and she turned out to be great as a mentor as well.
